Description

This is a full-day training as part of the Public Health Communications Project, with funding generously provided by The California Endowment. The project aims to support the use of trusted public health spokespersons and stories to increase awareness of and engagement in health equity and community prevention efforts in California.

Who should attend this training? Health officers, health executives, public information officers, and anyone else in local government involved in health-related communications campaigns.

Objectives: At the completion of this training, participants will be able to…

  • craft messages and effectively communicate issues important to the health of the public.
  • communicate about health equity effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • design a communications campaign to qualify for a Communications Award.
  • effectively utilize tools provided by The California Endowment to communicate issues framed around place based health and equity.
  • identify and work with community partners.


Travel Information: The Capitol Event Center is located at the northwest corner of K and 11th Street in downtown Sacramento. Its entrance faces the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacramento. Parking downtown can be difficult, so please leave extra time to find a parking lot. You may also wish to explore Sacramento's excellent public transportation system. The light rail's blue line stops at the Cathedral, and bus lines such as the 30 and 62 stop one block away. The Amtrak station is just over half a mile away.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) through the joint providership of the Health Officers Association of California (HOAC), The California Endowment, and Brown Miller Communications. HOAC is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
